(A) Diffuse REG Iα expression observed in the whole crypt cell population and surface epithelial cells; (B) strong cytoplasmic REG Iα staining mainly in cells at the bottom of the crypt (magnifying view of ‘box’ in figure A); (C) β-catenin is expressed mainly in the cell membrane, except at the bottom of the crypt; (D) note expression of nuclear and cytoplasmic β-catenin at the bottom of the crypt, similar to REG Iα (magnifying view of ‘box’ in figure C).
