Effect of silymarin on renal tissue damage and cellular architecture after renal I/R injury. Renal histologic changes in the outer medulla from mice of sham, silymarin, I/R and silymarin + I/R groups were assessed using periodic acid–Schiff (PAS) staining. Representative slides from each group (original magnification ×400) are shown. a Histologic damage in the outer medulla was scored by counting the percentage of tubules that displayed tubular necrosis, cast formation and tubular dilation as follows: 0, normal; 1, <10 %; 2, 10–25 %; 3, 26–50 %; 4, 51–75 %; 5, >75 %.
