Serum ACTH levels during the patient’s clinical course. Twenty-one months after the second pituitary tumor resection, there was a marked elevation of serum ACTH, despite stability of her sellar disease. This occurred immediately prior to discovery of her liver lesion (dark arrow). The serum ACTH abruptly declined after resection of the metastasis (light arrow). A similar decline in systemic ACTH has been previously reported following resection of a corticotroph carcinoma liver metastasis (19)
