Microphotographs of ganglion cell candidates by their respective DSA scores in ascending order. The scores for each of the images a through f were 0.13, 0.32, 0.5, 0.62, 0.78 and 1, respectively. When examined by a pathologist, images a and b contained no ganglion cells (the low DSA score was appropriate), images e and f contained definitive ganglion cells (appropriate high DSA score), while images c and d were found to contain ganglion cells, yet their features were less pronounced (thus the intermediate DSA score)
